Summer is fading

Summer is fading.

The green of the leaves has lost its springtime splendor, long ago.
A dull, gray mist moistens the potted plants, a foreshadowing of the frosts to come.

Yet there will still be days of sun-kissed warmth, tinted by the yellow heat of summer’s joy and care-free ways – a light that turns to long shadows and sunsets marked by the chasing of fireflies with clear mason jars…an attempt to capture time, to delay the death of summer (futile as it is).

For fall will come, in her slow, quiet way – tuning the colors of the leaves to harmonize with the pure blue sky and water, and fields full of ripened corn - brilliant flashes, highlighted every time the cool breeze reminds the geese to take flight.

Yes, summer is fading. It was bold…beautiful…blessed. But the time is soon coming to move on to different lives – to ride the flow of change that so marks history without fail. Fall is coming, and I look forward to embracing it, as I am apt to do with beloved friends after long absences.
